Classroom Safety Plan

2020-2021 School Year

General information

Masks will be worn properly at all times.
Students will enter and exit the classroom through the door on the south side of the room closest to the Smartboard. The other four doors will be locked and should not be opened unless directed by the teacher in the event of an emergency.
There is a sanitation station immediately inside the classroom door. Students will apply hand sanitizer and proceed directly to their seats.
Student seating is designed to maximize social distancing. In this classroom, we are able to maintain a distance of six feet from fellow students in all directions provided that the tables and chairs are not moved. Do not move the tables and chairs.
Assigned seating will be established for every student in all class periods. The manner by which the seating arrangement will be created will vary from class to class. Assigned seats will be changed throughout the year on a class scale and on an individual basis in order to accommodate student needs.
We will carefully manage the time we are out of our seats. You will have all of the materials that you need for class instruction in your backpack: school-issued Chromebook, notebooks/paper, multiple pens and pencils, etc. so there should be no need to borrow from fellow students or a classroom supply. Deposit any trash that you might accumulate during class time as you leave the classroom. Raise your hand or call my name in order to ask questions rather than coming to my desk or wherever I happen to be. There should be very few reasons to stand up during class. As such, I will provide structured opportunities for moving about the classroom if needed.
There will be no food or drink (besides water) consumed during class. Any food or drink you might have should be kept in your backpack.
Let’s use good public health practices and common sense. Remember: we endure these inconveniences in order to protect others. Others endure them to protect us. Collectively we overcome the obstacles.

Class information

A1 U.S. Government and Citizenship (seniors), 28 students. Seating and spacing will not be an issue with a class this size. I expect them as seniors to be able to follow the general guidelines of the class with little prompting on my part. All instructional materials will be available on Canvas. Filmed lectures and discussions will be made available the same day in most cases. Collaborative assignments and any other group work will use the Collaborations tool found in the Canvas menu that utilizes Google apps such as Docs and Slides.
